John Pombe Magufuli at 61 years old, has made vow as President of the United Republic of Tanzania in a colorful Inauguration ceremony at Dodoma’s Jamhuri Stadium.
“It’s an important event – if only because it will be the first time in the history of Tanzania that a President is inaugurated in Dodoma,”said, Dr Hassan Abbasi, the government Spokesperson.
Magufuli formally starts his second term in office subsequent to winning the October 28 vote. This second and non-sustainable term is planned to end in 2025.
Magufuli holding a book of scriptures in his right hand, remained under the steady gaze of Judge Ibrahim Hamisi Juma, Chief Secretary, John Kijazi, and made vow in the midst of scores of individuals, visiting Presidents and different dignitaries present on the event.
His Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, made vow of office independently in Dodoma’s Jamhuri Stadium, a function that was seen by a number of Tanzanians.
Magufuli vowed to be unwavering, work for the nation and also protect the nation’s constitution. He was handed a spear and shield,these are traditional symbols of power.
President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda and Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa have graced the ceremony. Also Tanzania’s previous presidents including Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, Alhaji Ali Hassan Mwinyi, and Ali Mohamed Shein of Zanzibar.
As per the National Electoral Commission, Dr Magufuli won 14 other official applicants in the October 28 General Election and was reported the victor in the wake of gathering 12.5 million votes against 1.9 million of the nearest rival, Chadema’s Tundu Lissu.
