Kagame, Ruto Hold A Bilateral Meeting At The COP27 Sideline Event

President Paul Kagame met his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto om the sideline at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27 taking place at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt where global leaders are discussing effective and sustainable ways to combat climate change.

“Held talks with Rwanda President Paul Kagame on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP27, Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.” Kenyan President William Ruto tweeted emphasizing that, “The Kenya-Rwanda friendship is a cornerstone of our shared prosperity and regional stability.”

“We look forward to growing trade and expanding investments with Rwanda for the mutual benefit of the citizens of our two countries,” Ruto added.

When William Ruto won a tight presidential race in September, President Kagame travelled to Nairobi to officiate the swearing-in ceremony and later held talks with the new elected president by then at his Karen Office, in Nairobi County.

As the new incumbent, Ruto hailed the friendship between Rwanda and Kenya, pledging to strengthen the existing mutual relations even further.

“Kenya and Rwanda have a long-established relationship based not just on geography but mutual interests and longstanding partnerships on economic and security issues. We will seek to build and expand our cooperation for the mutual benefit of the citizens of our countries,” Ruto tweeted.

Official sources indicate Rwanda’s cooperation with Kenya stretch to the political and economic arena and both aspire to exploit mutual trade and investment where Kenya is Rwanda’s key exports and imports route through Kenya’s port of Mombasa.

Kenyan companies have found a home in Rwanda for business opportunities.
